Week 9: Site Study

For project 2, I have decided to apply my circulation studies of the Villa Muller to the site in Pott's Point. I have taken a few sections to get a better idea of the slope of the site and possible solutions for the 2 house 1 garden design.

Week 5: Abstraction

The circulation abstractions show an individuals journey through the Villa Muller. The diagrams, specifically, give indications of level changes within the house and relations of the circulation to various public/private spaces.

Public/private space abstractions were chosen to compliment the circulation studies. Long/short slices of the Villa Muller were taken - iteratively, to represent three dimensional spaces in two dimensions. The diagrams demonstrate the relation between public and private spaces throughout the house, as well as their connection to circulation.

Week 4: Abstraction

In the Villa Muller, there is a close relationship between public/private spaces and the circulation within them. Moving through the 3D spaces is quite a journey for the observer. The study below is intended to highlight the spatial arrangement floor to floor, in relation to each idea.

I decided to examine the entrance sequence - I feel that this part is most representative of "Raumplan", in relation to other 3D spaces that form the Villa Muller.

The Villa Muller is a complex building, with its rooms placed and arranged as cubic volumes in three dimensional space. It was incredibly difficult to understand the floor plans without the sections.

The "part" I have chosen from the "whole" is the entrance sequence - moving from the front door, up the stairs into the living room, and into the salon/boudoir. I feel this best represents Adolf Loos' use of Raumplan.
