Introduction

 Figure 1: Pepper Mill

A. This is a pepper mill that I designed and made in Year 10 for a school woodwork project. A hexagonal chunk of timber was spun on a lathe and cut to dimension (using incremented measurements/cuts along the length, and curved). After sanding and oiling, the grinding mechanism is inserted into the top (it starts with the pin and ends with the grinder) through a hole drilled all the way to the bottom. The shape of the mill was not the intended in my design - I cut too deeply on the handle, and it was dubbed "The Apple Core" by my teacher and classmates.

Figure 2: Sorte House, A.L.X Architects (Torimura, 2008)

B. Sorte by A.L.X (Architect Label Xain) in Tokyo, Japan is a residential building. It fits 5 households over multiple storeys - however, not conventionally (Komninou, 2009). The living areas are not stacked on top of one another. Instead, every household overlaps one another in terms of levels and rooms - fit together like Tetris over 3 spatial planes (Komninou, 2009).

Figure 3: Blacksmiths Beach

C. This is a photo from a recent trip with high school friends to Blacksmiths Beach. It was taken on the last day, when we stayed up to watch the sunrise. My friends (pictured) stood on the shoreline for an hour, watching the waves get closer and closer - until it finally hit them. I feel that this best captured the relaxed morning atmosphere.
